Design

CMF offer a full design and build service for our entire product range.

At CMF we firmly believe that the Design Process is the crucial driving factor in any construction project. With this in mind we are continually investing in our Design and Drawing offices.

The group’s in-house design team has extensive experience in all design aspects of structural steelwork, architectural metalwork and non-corrosive metalwork.

We use Finite Element Analysis in the development of composite and GSA 8.2 modelling, and the latest AutoCAD, AutoCAD Inventor and Tekla structures 3D modelling computer software to illustrate our design ideas. This enables us to produce detailed arrangement and fabrication drawings and design calculations in order to effectively and efficiently produce and install our products to the highest standard.

We have the ability to quickly develop sketched proposals to 3D-Models, which can be fully interrogated and analysed before a weld has been laid. Our advice on material selection, fabrication and erection methodology at the onset of a project has often lead to significant impact on costs, programme and weight reduction.

Our schemes are developed in conjunction with other trades and a target emphasis is placed on the coordination of the details as well as “buildability”.

As Tier One Supplier at Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport, we were required to work in a collaborative 3D environment, which demonstrates our ability to successfully interface with other disciplines.

TEKLA STRUCTURES 3D MODELLING

The use of Tekla 3D modelling has greatly enhanced CMF’s design capabilities enabling us to analyse the design process in greater depth; viewing the final product before it is manufactured so that alterations can be made to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the design.

This has proved an advantage on projects such as Chiswick Park where you can see the natural progression from design to manufacture and installation of the external access staircases.

In combining the design and manufacture stages, with the use of CNC machinery, we process materials minimising the margin of error in the fabrication stage, which is both highly economical and in-keeping with our environmental policy to minimise our production of waste.

AWARDS

We have twice been presented with the Structural Steel Design Award for the efficiency, cost effectiveness, aesthetics and design innovation of our work on the Royal Academy of Arts and Swanlea School projects.
